Friday poll
Right – next week can somebody else do the Friday poll as I'm running out of topics, for the moment at least. This one, is sort of culled from a thread that I posted to on TMP. Its a straight forward wargamers hoarding question to start with but the discussion is: Of all your amassed pots of paint how many to do really use regularly and would you miss all those others?

Big Dave- 10-23-2009

Don't have masses of paints, but my regular opponent told me that he looked through his paints the other day and discovered 17 shades of brown!!!

valleyboy- 10-23-2009

Just counted 139 on the workdesk including the washes though some are duplicates like 3 bottles of badab black wash). 30 of these are more than 10 yrs old (Humbrol acylics) Estimate that 90 get used reasonably often and I also mix them together :eh: I wonder why

Purple- 10-23-2009

I've got about a hundred, of various different makes and types. Interestingly I only use about 12 of them!

Giles- 10-23-2009

On a rough count I probably have close to 300. That's made up of 78 Foundry "palettes" (so 234 different pots), about 20 Coat d'Arms, a similar number of GW and a handful of Vellejo (which I still don't get - how do you avoid wasting loads every time you squeeze paint out?).

Very smart move by Vallejo to ensure maximum consumption of paint! In time though you can fairly well guess how much you need. Last count I have about 50 colours: My core set that does for all periods – about 20 – 25 bottles. Depending on what I'm painting I may add from: A few brights colours such as orange, sky blue and violet etc Specials for WW1 and WW2 aircraft – eg colours that match the RLM codes I had two culls one of about 80 pots when I switched over to Acrylic from Humbrol – they went to Shuke bator. Another of about 20 pots – I bought far too many colours when I first moved over and lots remained unused so they went on fleabay.

overrevdsquat- 10-23-2009

About 150 on my desk, with about 50 'spares' not opened yet. I guess I use about 50 regularly.

doug- 10-23-2009

I only use a couple of dozen regularly - half a dozen oils, the rest enamels. I do have a box full of foundry paints bought about 7 years ago and never opened somewhere (anyone want them?).

Captain Chook- 10-23-2009

A weird collection of citadel, vallejo and artists acrylics, plus inks and washes.

goat major- 10-23-2009

120ish i think. Mostly foundry but topped up with Vallejo and a few GW colours. I cant get to grips with Vallejo bottles properly either. Plus i seem to find the colour and medium separate after a minute or so in the palette. This seems to happen even when i store the bottles upside down.

Greystreak- 10-23-2009

I am both a paint whore, and hoarder. My family have given me paint sets for 'gifts' at birthdays and Christmas for the last many years. For example, over the years I have acquired the entire Citadel range (acrylics, inks, washes, Foundation ranges), of more than 125-135 odd containers, some dating back to the 1980's (with French & English text, from Canada). In addition, I have the entire Vallejo Game Colour Range (80? bottles), plus 90-odd Vallejo Model Colours; then there's about 30 Coat d'Arms, 42-odd P3 bottles, and 36 bottles of Foundry authentic Napoleonic colours . . . I won't even start on the Windsor & Newton lines of water colours, acrylics, oils, and inks, nor the varnishes, sealing sprays, or primers. In brief, an entire large cupboard full. It's embarrasing, really. I don't need more paint, just time to use it all! :beg:

I'm in the 41-60 range, but that's just mine. The wife is a bit of an artist so all total I'd put us around 250 or so. Not that I'd EVER use her paints on my minis...

goat major- 10-23-2009

now that the Duck mentions stealing paint it reminds me that my first ever painted minis at about age 7/8 were airfix ancient britons using my mother's nail varnish - lots of very bright red cloaks. Couldnt do my ww2 figures since for some reason she wouldnt do her nails in Olive Drab
