Hot off the Eureka Presses
Nic was up early this morning. It's getting very hard to say no to this range! http://eurekamin.com.au/news.php?newsid=EkVyyuulyZzmwCmfTw

I'm amazed at how quickly they have added to the range. Other companies seem to take an age to put out only a few new figures.

just an aside to my last post on the new cavalry. Apart from completing the three chasseurs styles including command, Alan has done a lovely dismounted chasseur vignette. It depicts a chasseur in caracot minding three horses who are drinking from a trough. There is a nice interplay between the horses and the chasseur is a great figure. He is leaning against the water fountain tapping out his pipe on his boot. As I understand it there may be a female added to it. Its the sort of work that we are used to seeing in 54mm and bigger 'modelling' ranges, but not in 28mm. It will be a beautiful little set. john

There's a very nice "horseholder and nags" group in their SYW Saxon Hussar range, as well, and I've just noticed how nice the horses are for their WAS Dutch cavalry (possible AWI generals/personalities there). If/when they get around to Bavarians, 1806 Prussians, or French/British in Egypt.....I'm sunk. Perhaps one of you might mention the bicornes being worn by the French troops. The shape and height are wrong, and they look too large and generic: the "chapeau" of this period was fairly small and low, quite distinctively shaped, as this pic off the Victrix site shows:- http://www.victrixlimited.com/future_releases.php Also, some of the earlier infantry figures had the bicorne perched much too high on the head, with far too much forehead showing - although this seems to have been remedied, if the artillery are anything to go by. That aside, you simply cannot argue with the variations and coverage already being provided, or being promised for future releases. Fingers crossed that the sculptors stay motivated and healthy, as this is going to be a BIG range. It is astonishing that so few manufacturers have really done justice to the Republican/Consular French forces - and most of them only as an aside after focussing on the "shako" end of the era.

This period and range are definitely on my list. But 3-4 years away probably :)

From what I know of the plans at this stage, Austrian cav and artillery are in the planning stage. Then maybe some Brits. I have sketched out a landing party range.... john

I have sketched out a landing party range.... Now that would be very good news. One of the more disappointing of the "lost ranges" that failed to materialise after Foundry imploded 8-odd years ago was Nick Collier's naval landing party range. All that came of it is two packs of marines and sailors, but apparently many more were in the works.

I'd picked up a couple of packs and have been very impressed with the quality - the proposed completeness of the range is making it very tempting. I keep drifting towards the Trent range (not compatible by a long way) but that is pretty random. I'm going to have to try and paint a few Eureka up to see (my first attempt was poor but I'm sure I can do better). This site was rather spiffing: http://www.napoleonicminiatureswargame.com/arcole1115.html

Make sure you include some line infantry in "fighting order" (ie slung blanket rolls instead of back-packs) as these would be perfect for any sizeable non-RM landing force, eg Aboukir or Maida.
