New range of 28mm Chechen Warshttp://www.redstarminiatures.eu/news.html
A new company with very nice figures, and not Naps or Ancients for a change. Quite possibly the best thing to come out of Belgium since....er....hmm.. :eh:

lovely miniatures, as you say. I think I am more open to gaming modern conflicts than many on this board might be. But the truly ghastly nature of the Chechen conflict would make me unable to wargame it. The figs would work well for late Afghan and some other scenarios too though...

Yes, that did cross my mind. Hopefully the figures will be useful for other theatres.
Giles, FYI, the best known Belgian invention is the saxophone.
I preferred TJ Hooker, myself....

Hercule Poirot?
there is of course a website entirely dedicated to famous Belgians http://www.famousbelgians.net/top10.htm
the fact that Plastic Bertrand makes it in at number 5 probably tells us a lot.....
Blimey - Audrey Hepburn?
Actually, for two painters, a cancer specialist, and the inventors of bakelite and the "Big Bang" theory, I think we can forgive them the saxophone.

Open fruit flans?
As it happens I have just been reading some first-hand reports of the Chechen War. Not bedtime reading; some REALLY chilling and nasty stuff, even given that all wars are pretty nasty by definition.
As Eclaireur says, it is not a conflict in itself I would want to game, but plenty of scope for "what if" games; Russians trying to seize a Canadian post in the arctic as global warming results in jostling for sovereignty over a no-longer-ice-bound Northwest Passage.
Wouldn't choose to play Chechen conflict by choice but still rather impressed with the minis. Would happily plunder them for ultramodern fictional scenarios.
Oh I say! Those look very good and an interesting period/campaign. Not a pleasant one to be sure, but the option for gaming the variety of modern Russian 'civil' wars is welcome, particulary if those figures live up to the quality of the photographs.
In fact, ordered.
This internet is a dangerous thing isn't it?
