Timmo- 10-05-2009
Tim, I look forward to seeing and hopefully gaming with your new ACW collection. I am so pleased you are now concentrating your skill sets on an historical period you love.
Today, managed to complete three( two officers and trumpeter) of the five figures required to complete the Austrian cavalry Regt Kalnoky, these are conversions but took more time than expected. Also painted a flag for the regt. The trumpeter based on a 1770's uniform was an issue as to whether he would wear a tricorn or a shako, I went for shako, must now research the colour of his uniform.
The workbench for the next 15 months will be devoted to Austrian Cavalry, Prussian cavalry, Spanish infantry and vignettes but I would love to sculpt a small selection of Turkish troops to oppose my Austrians!. Having said on this forum that I am close to completing the collection.. I may have to delay my retirement... BUT.....But....what about that Russian 1770's army.
If any member has uniform details (if any) of Turkish troops of the mid-late 18th century I would be most appreciative.
John
Shuke B. is your man for that I think.

I finished a First Carlist War mountain gun set at the weekend - the first time I've painted a mule. This evening I need to amend a couple of ready-made flags to add to the infantry regiments I've recently finished. I've now made a start on the 17th Foot for the AWI and another FCW infantry battalion in greatcoats. Painting time has been curtailed of late by having to deal with builders and visit various showrooms to buy the stuff required for 2 bathroom re-fits....

builders are in here too Giles - had to move my painting room but noticed a funny smell in the room
Ripped off the soffet? Spelling on the eaves underneath new painting room window last night - found 2 rats nests, 1 petrified rat not as in scared) but no smelly one which i suspect has died in the walls
the joys of living next to a Macadamia orchard :grr:

Eeek. Then again, if you insist on living on a large plantation.......My house is built on an area that was used to bury plague victims in the 1660s, so god only knows what I'd find under my floorboards. And judging from the look of some of my neighbours, there's still a bit of plague around...
Ronan the Librarian- 10-06-2009
The plague never dies, either. A famous burial pit in your part of the world is the Honourable Artillery Company sports ground - and in fact that is the reason it has never been sold off for homes or offices, despite being ridiculously valuable as building land. Any sort of cut and you were straight off to hospital for a tetanus (although I was never sure how that would keep the plague at bay).

Hmm..thanks for that, Ronan :dodge:

We have an entire plague village in this neck of the woods. A study was done on residents who can trace their families back a certain amount of generations (can't remember as I've slept since I saw the prog) and it was found that they are resiliant to all manner of viruses including the big one.
I pass through it all the time and I'm alright.

Been there and so far no symptoms.

That's what you think, Timmo.... :)

Well I've developed an increasing affinity for the North, is that a symptom?

I have a confession to make, apart from buying some modelling wood to construct HMS Una and HMS Pamela, I have done NOTHING since Mini-Orrible was born over 18 months ago!

Things do come and go in waves, Keith. My productivity of this year is after years at a much more relaxed speed. Strangely, the more free time I've got, the less I do. Now my days are rather full, and I work several evenings per week on the Polish monster.

For John Ray: does the Russian Potemkin style uniform overlap with your period. That would be an awesome thing to behold. They could fight your Austrians in casquets or the Turks. You know that you are going to want to do the Turks.
John Ray- 10-07-2009
Jim, as soon as I finish a few more special vignette pieces I will definately sculpt a small range of Turks, sufficient to fill a mould. Russians are still a possibility.
Time will see!

8 10mm Celts, I am waiting for orders from Hovels, Irregular, Pendraken, Scotia and Keep Wargaming, so I hope this situation will change pretty soon.
