Plastic Vikings for Duck?
Just saw this, in case Duck C. has not: http://www.wargamesfactory.com/_product_16676/Vikings_8-Figure_Set . Don't know if they'll fit the bill. :eh:

Yes, now that I'm essentially done with my Viking army, they make plastic Vikings.

I notice that they don't have horns on their helmets, like real Vikings did.

Wrong, they do have a horned helmet one, though they did it in a style that lets you clip them off easily.

I watched a programme recently which suggested the horned helmet thing was a myth.
Gungnir- 10-25-2009
It was, Mick, though there might have been the occasional one. Horns are great sword catchers, not the first thing you think of for protective head gear.
A miniature with my facial growth should have known better.
Peewee- 10-25-2009
The horns weren't actually on the helmet. There were rings cut out of the sides so that their horns would fit through.
Gungnir- 10-25-2009
Darn, I thought I had photoshopped my pic on my site better.

Even though I hardly NEED more Vikings... I can still be tempted by them!
(However, these will have to take a number behind Redoubt's ship crew... Dixon's vignettes... Gripping Beast's vignettes... and Eureka's Beowulf & retinue.)
I have no problem with the (very) occaisional horned helmet among my monastery burners.
We know that the IMAGE of a horned helm did exist in Nordic culture... (I visited the Nationalmuseet in Copenhagen a couple of weeks ago - it's horn-tastic!)
Current interpretation is that the depiction of a horned helm denotes a God, legendary hero, or religious/ceremonial imagery.
And we know that the Vikings were accompanied by battle-priests - in fact they insisted on it, and would elect one of their number to be the 'nominal' Godi if they didn't have a real one.
So with larger warbands I have no problem including a horn-helmed figure to represent a 'proper' Godi with ceremonial helmet.

Just had a look at them on the WF site and the quality of the figures seems to be much better than the Romans. They seem to be getting their act together now. Very nice.

Duck - presumably however you now need an armiy of Irish / Saxons/ Scots/ Welsh/ Franks to fight your Vikings... this would neccesitate buying more figures, obviously.
Norman D. Landings- 10-25-2009
Yeah... and Normans.
Although they could head East, to fight Slavs and Baltic tribesmen.
Or South to Byzantium, & points beyond...
Gungnir- 10-25-2009
Or Native Americans, as far South as Incas, according to some sources.
You know, the Duck just might have bought him the most expensive army possible.
And I'm not talking about ships yet.
