With historical novels I think it helps to be fairly ignorant of the period in question.
Hmm. A big problem I find is when I am reading non fiction, I spend more time making notes, and looking up references than I do READING.
Knowing too much, or WANTING to know, CAN be a right pain in the ass.

You're very agreeable today Purps.
To expand on my theory... Sharpe is quite popular amongst Naps players, therefore Naps players are very ignorant.
:lmao:

at the moment I am reading "What you reading?".
Anyone contemplating getting a copy dont bother. It has no real plot to speak of , the main character's are I think a group of librarians or avid readers as they are always talking about books.
It reads as a series of unconnected comments
( in the main about books ) there is the odd joke but not many.
Thankfully the author has seen fit to include on the left hand margin the name of the person making the comment otherwise it would make no sense at all.
if you still feel you want a copy wait till it comes out in paperback, or better still borrow it from the library. or read it online like me.

Sounds like the sort of book that gets remaindered fairly quickly, Tel.
Purple- 03-03-2009
I've seen that book Tel! Its rubbish!
Not only that but most of the cast seem to be degenerates, perverts and mentally uncoherant - its almost like watching eastenders!
Purple- 03-03-2009
But which WD3er is Leslie Grantham? . . . . haha
von_Scharnhorst- 03-03-2009
mentally uncoherant - !
Quite, especialy those that do not know it is incoherent. And others that choose a screen name because that was the colour of cryon normaly allowed them, when writing to the Times.

Actually theres a rather amusing tale to why one is called Purple - I'd tell you all if it wasn't slightly embarressing..
Cornet- 03-03-2009
If this involves autoerotic asphyxiation, I don't want to hear about it. :isaidwhat:
von_Scharnhorst- 03-03-2009
Oh go ON Purps, you can tell us, we have no friends to pass the embarrassing moment onto.
Embarassing deseases ..... :hmm: But your tale??? No WAY!
