Just started the book on Brig Peter Young called Commando to Captain Generall (with two 'l's' apparently).

"Patriots' by Christian Appy, an oral history of the Vietnam war. Lots of interesting thoughts & it's amazing just how much divergence of thought there still is on the subject. It includes participants from both North & South Vietnam, often overlooked in more conventional histories of the war. Ever wanted to know why the 1965 Playboy Playmate of the Year went to Vietnam? - it's in the book...... http://www.amazon.com/Patriots-Vietnam-War-Remembered-Sides/dp/0142004499

it's amazing just how much divergence of thought there still is on the subject. Aye. And then you get assholes who claim to know everything about the Napoleonic wars, or even the Wikings, or the bloody stone age. Hel, they can not agree when the people who DID it are sitting in front of them.

Finished Darkest Hour and moved on to some Roman era fiction, The Silver Eagle, the follow up to the very good Forgotton Legion.

Just got my "Deutschlands Seemacht" (German sea power) delivered. Now this describes it's self as an EXACT reprint of the 1896 edition. Very good so far. So as soon as I got to work, I got on the telephone to the publishers. "Is the cover ALSO a copy of the origional?" "Yes, of course!". "You lying bastard!" "Pardon?" "If that's a copy of the origional how come it's fucking spelt wrong?" (Round "s" in "Deutschlands" ). The rest is O.K though, so I resisted the temptation to send it back in protest. Bloody BRILLIANT etched copper plate illustrations, again copied from the origional. I suspect some of the illustrations were hand painted in the first edition, but are now rendered in black and white. Large format, so a bit of a problem to read in bed, as I lay on my side to read. MUST get a book stand!

Nafziger's 'Napoleon at Dresden'. Great on detail but like most of his books so bloody unreadable almost due to his style of writing. A great cure for insomnia. I just hope Jack Gill one day turns his attention to the campaigns of 1813/14 then we're in for a treat.

Finally got round to ordering Colleen McCullough's First Man In Rome, which came in today courtesy of Amazon. At 1,000 pages, it will be a long haul - although my girlfriend is already threatening to snatch my copy if I don't read it quickly enough. Crown of Grass is next if I enjoy this first installment in McCullough's Rome series.

although my girlfriend is already threatening to snatch my copy if I don't read it quickly enough. AHAA! I am NOT the only one. We are lucky. My Wife and I have the same hobby, and VERY similar interests. I have seen maraiges break down because the Misses does not understand why every Saturday the Husband dresses up as a Prussian Hussar and then goes of to play with the other boys. Those that stay together are those that camp together. The "Sprichwort" (Motto) of all the Germanic Napoleonic groups. She MAY "steal" your books, but all the Gods/esses willing, that is a GOOD sign.

Crown of Grass is next if I enjoy this first installment in McCullough's Rome series. I read these years ago and really enjoyed them. It would take me a year to finish a 1000 pager nowadays! Andy

My Wife and I have the same hobby, and VERY similar interests. In my case we don't actually share a hobby (well, not this one), but she's an avid reader and she's always game for a good yarn. Then again I don't dress up as a hussar every week-end so I'm safe on that front. :coffee:

Ever wanted to know why the 1965 Playboy Playmate of the Year went to Vietnam? - it's in the book...... Don't really care why, but are there pictures? no pictures, but since you asked...... Apparently back then if one took out a lifetime subscription to Playboy then the first copy would be hand delivered by the Playmate of the Year. A platoon in one of the Airborne units took out a subscription & Playboy honoured its committment. :) You don't get old fashioned service like that nowadays. :blow: There's a great little scenario in there. I wonder if Henry would offer up a similar subscription deal..... :blah:
