I'm reading "Flames Across the Border" by Pierre Berton It's the second volume of his two part epic on the War of 1812. I re-read them every 5 years or so.

Just finished Panzeschlacht – Armoured Operations on the Hungarian Plains, September – November 1944 by Perry Moore (thanks Henry) Very good, though i`m not an expert on the Eastern Front during WW2 or the Hungarian Armies part in it. Some great photos, useful battle reports and maps

Have you read Donald Grave's work, Jameson? They're quite good.

Some great photos, useful battle reports and maps  Richard there's a useful follow up of sorts called "Battle for Budapest" by Krisztian Ungvary (translated Ladislaus Lob) IB Taurus 2006 ISBN 1-85043-667-3. It covers (well) the subsequent battle for Budapest. It's a slightly eerie feeling to sit in a hotel room that starred as a command post during the battle & knowing exactly why there are bullet holes in the wall outside.... Budapest Castle. The television tower in the background is roughly where the Germans broke out at the end of the siege.

Have you read Donald Grave's work, Jameson? They're quite good. Yes sir. I especially enjoyed his book on Lundy's Lane. I have a soft spot for Berton as he concentrates a lot on the Detroit Frontier, my backyard.

Eccles- 10-23-2008

Well the Niagara and Lake Ontario frontiers are my backyard so Graves works more for me LOL.

Jameson- 10-23-2008

Ah, literal vs figurative....you win.

Eccles- 10-23-2008

Read plenty of Burton in high school though. :)

Jameson- 10-23-2008

Well, I only live about a three hour drive from the Falls. Next summer I plan on visiting every Canadian War of 1812 battlefield. If I do, I'll take lots of pictures for you.

Eccles- 10-23-2008

Cool! Don't miss Fort Niagara, its ace.

Jameson- 10-23-2008

I almost did once. My mates and I were in Buffalo, but they wanted to go shopping instead. Sigh.... However, Fort George was quite impressive. Also, being on the same spot where Brock fell was almost....spiritual?

Eccles- 10-23-2008

I like Fort Niagara better as it has more history but I know what you mean. Haven't been to Fort Mississauga though and its an odd little one is that. Theres lots of stuff thats in landscape thats dead easy to miss as well. Between Hamilton and Burlington, theres a cemetary which has an 1812 redoubt converted into a mosoleum. Overlooks Burlington Bay. tres cool!

A new purchase. Dr Childs "the army of Charles II" A very dry academic writing style but lots of interesting facts and figures.

Just started reading 'Forgotten Wars: The End of Britain's Asian Empire' by Bayly and Harper. Totally epic and totally absorbing.
