Should we have a library section?
We all seem to be avid readers and cover a lot of material between us.
Would it be a useful resource to have a Library, possibly divided by period, to which all members could refer for advice on possible purchases?
And no, I don't want to be in charge. :hide:
I believe we have a member who runs or used to run a bookshop....he would seem a suitable candidate :)
How would it work? Would we suggest titles that we considered essential reading then secondary texts or would we need to place synopsis of each title.
Either way I think it would be a great resource to have.
One thread per major period/conflict eg WSS, SYW, but bigger ones split by theatre eg WW2 Western Desert, WW2 Pacific. Readers could then post their reviews (maybe give marks out of 10 for value for money) and where to buy it.
Probably focus on the type of books that wouldn't make the review pages of Battlegames or any of the other wargames magazines, or perhaps already have but in older issues no longer available - so not necessarily mainstream wargaming titles, although they could be, but more your "fringe" campaign histories, biographies etc.
It might also be a useful resource for lending/swapping where books are no longer wanted, and/or OOP.
If the moderators want to set it up, I have some AWI book reviews I'd be happy to put up - small, local publications that most UK-based members won't have, but might want to pick up if they are ever touring N America.
May I suggest the following?
Try it out in the Articles section.
If it really works well, I'm sure we can ask Purple to create a separate Library section.
Us mods can transfer the applicable threads to the new section then.
Being a Grade A bibliophile I'm all for this.
Theres a thread in the articles now, I'm revamping all the links sections, etc as they are super messy - and will add the reviews accordingly
Can the new library have an adult section? you know, maybe hidden away behind a red curtain somewhere where men, and Ladies (I'm not sexist), if they so wish, can go! It would of course be purely of an historical nature, nothing too lurid. Where we could make enquires as to what was Wellingtons boot fetish all about, or why Nelson wanted to kiss Hardy. If Hitler really had only one. Or was Fredrick really that great. Was lady Godiva the first naturalist Just how fond of Horses was Catherine the Great. I'd like to know.
Top idea Ronan; it will add a lot to the site.
ps. Gungs can we please give mellow a medal?!! the top lad has made a suggestion in the best WD3 spirit!! ROFL
