Warlord ECW Metal Pikemen Greens
Recently posted on the Warlord website : Generally speaking, I'm not crazy about the Warlord ECW plastics as there's something about their poses and general appearance that doesn't quite cut it for me. However, these metal pikemen look like they could complement my TAG Thirty Years War figures quite nicely, as I believe they are quite comparable in size and heft. www.warlordgames.co.uk

Gungs can you give Arthur here a title like Chief Scout or something? lol the good fellow keeps us updated with all sorts of interesting tidbits of news!!

They look alright to me – not stunning though and the odd proportion is adrift. Spoilt for choice these days with 28mm ECW, shame there isn't a single decent 15/18mm range IMHO.

bangorstu- 06-23-2009

I like them - and for the price who can argue? As a matter of interest, which metal ranges are comparable in size? I understand Perrys mix in well, as would TAG. Renegade wouldn't which is damned annoying given their current special offer..... How about Hinchliffe?

Timmo - what's wrong with Testudo?

Theo- 06-23-2009

Stu I think Tim by omiitting mention of Testudo alludes to the fact that we can't seem to find a way to buy Testudo. The firm seems to have gone bust. We both love the range and I for one would get loads of them if I could.

Damn... I found this website http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Plaza/4375/indexeng.html from the people who bought the range up. Have they gone broke as well?

Theo- 06-23-2009

yes to my knowledge mate. Maybe someone knows different. I would be very interested to know indeed!

I would have thought Eureka were the perfect solution and Fighting 15s the UK distributor but I seem to recall reading (probably on TMP) that they tried and failed to get the Testudo moulds and the Polly Oliver ones too. Real shame as, for all sorts of reasons 18mm is my favourite wargames size.

Prince of Darkness- 06-23-2009

The only Warlord ECW metals I have seen (and painted) are the artillery crew and they are small figs - compatible with Perry and TAG but nothing else. The sculpts are also quite thin - thinner in fact than Perry. So I will interested to see how these turn out. I will also be interested to see how Warlord market them, in that "we're obviously ex-GW " way of theirs....

Etranger- 06-23-2009

I've got some of the Warlord plastics & they're ok to my eyes & should fit in reasonably well as rank & file alongside Perry, TAG & Foundry figures. Their pikes are commendably thin. These new greens look ok to me. As far as 15/18mm go I'd disagree with Timmo to some extent in that there are some nice ranges out there. The general also takes issue! This current TMP thread summarises the situation quite nicely. There are however similar issues with figure compatibility in 15/18mm. http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=171277 BTW there's a Eureka 300 Club request for 18mm ECW figures too.

My Thirty years War pike blocks could use a bit of variety : I'm using the TAG range which only offers two poses, standing and marching - to which I should add the English pikemen advancing at porte. The chap above receiving cavalry with drawn sword might be just the thing I'm looking for to jazz up the front rank. So far, TAG and Warlord have been perfectly compatible, so I'm reasonably optimistic. But as you say Giles, we'll see how these turn out when they're released. :peace:

ET Yup sorry I think I was in a grumpy moment but I remember seeing the Testudos and thinking they were so good that they remain my memory of 15/18mm ECW. I really did very seriously consider doing ECW over again with big units of them, then the figures disappeared and with it my notion of ECW being possible with beautiful 15mm. Aslo probably worth mentioning I'm stuck with 25mm Minifigs ECWs so my own figures are hardly state-of-the-art! Re the Warlords I can't work out why the last pikeman is about to get into the thick of the fight but his helmet is still stuck on this belt as was often the case when marching. Then again from what re-enactors have said a wide brim hat is useless for a pikeman – it gets in the way. Sorry Warlord but when I met you at Salute you told me that yours were the ONLY figures that have EVER got the head gear totally right… Hmmmm Equally why is one guy is in fully armour with tassets but no helmet and again a wide brim hat? Right I'm being grumpy again.

Giles- 06-24-2009

Sorry Warlord but when I met you at Salute you told me that yours were the ONLY figures that have EVER got the head gear totally right… Hmmmm I confess to finding Warlord's general hype and bluster increasingly irritating... Compare to the Perries, Artizan and a whole host of others who just release stuff without ever claiming to be the "best" or "most accurate" etc.
