Big Dave- 04-17-2009

This week is Band Of Brigands about WWI tankers and tanks. Who wrote it? Christy Campbell Its also very cheap in Tescos.

For some reason The Military and Aviation Book club allowed me to buy 6 books again for about £30 so I had the Osprey celebration book (great), Adkins big books on Trafalger and Gettysburg, the new book on Quatre Bras and a new Ian Castle book on the Crimea and another WWII one for my father. I have started on Trafalger and its a great read although it is a big heavy book.

Christy Campbell A WOMAN???

MikP- 04-17-2009

Christy Campbell A WOMAN??? No. Imagine he's Irish or Irish descent - think of the golfers O'Connor (sp may be different). Was defence correspondent for the Sunday Telegraph. Also written a book on Fenians plotting against Queen Victoria, and another on the transplantation of American grape vines to Europe when the European vines got hit by disease (it's more jauntily titled than that though!)

Peewee- 04-17-2009

Fenian Fire! I read Fenian Fire years ago, and Band of Brigands recently, but I never connected that it was the same author. I'm a bit slow...

A WOMAN??? No. :hmm: Hmm. Thats O.K then. Wandering round with a womans name! How the HEL can he ( :what: ) expect to be taken seriously? :whack:

Johnny Cash would disagree :)

At least Sue never tried to write war history books.

Big Dave- 04-17-2009

Fonthill Book 5 and House by House a US infantry mans account of the 2nd battle of Fallajiuh.

Stavka- 04-17-2009

At least Sue never tried to write war history books. :hmm: You've never read anything by Barbara Tuchman or Lyn Macdonald then?

von_Scharnhorst- 04-18-2009

Never recovered from when I was 6 years old and someone told me Enid Blyton was a woman. Never read another one since.

Tardis- 04-21-2009

Yes, the anzio book is pretty good

Another one I have on order. Amazon make great things out of the international book ordering service, and then can't get the ones I ask for. Maybe they were thinking more "Jean Plaidy" than Rossenbergs "Myth of the twentieth century". :hmm:

Just finished 'Redcoats on the River ' by Robert Dunkerly. If you enjoy the AWI in the South this is a must! This covers the war in Southeastern North Carolina. The chapters I particularlly enjoyed were those of the occupation of Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear region in 1781 by Major James Craig of the 82nd. With a few figures you could have a most enjoyable small campaign. John

Hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm I am not flush these days and book clubs are too expensive for me. However if any of you out there spot a Napoleonic book in your clubs letter then let me know as I would consider getting you to buy it on my behalf if that is ok? I will clearly pay for it and the postage.
