Cutting flash off 20mm russians that turned out to be bayonets, painting flash as equipment are my worest crimes.

Kit assembly is my greatest crime - in the last few months I've glued a Sloppy Model T Ford back to front, reversed the mudguards on a Lancia armoured truck and inserted the etched brass grills on a 1/72nd tank on top of the hole and not from underneath (where they'd fit a dam sight easier -it took real talent to get them on top I can tell you). Painting? Well all my James II drummers have red coats, not reversed colour coats. Did I mention I hate drummers?

Being partially colourblind, one once had a painting set without the names of the colours on the tubs...... and mistakingly painted a whole unit of 24 medival knights horses..... green. Likewise a unit of the 95th rifles were painted brown. Still, they look fine to me :eh:

So big tip for anyone starting out on the AWI - read the 1768 Royal Warrant very carefully... . for such a short document it's really very complicated isn't it ? In writing style it feels like a Phil Barker rulebook. I can never retain any of it in my mind and always have to go back to it from scratch every time.

I think Barker managed longer sentences, but for the mid-1700s the Warrant is a splendid effort. What's really annoying about it though is the stuff it misses out, because nobody gave any thought to people like us needing to refer to it 200 years on. For example, no actual mention of the saddlecloth colours for generals. What can you say?

Or backpack motifs. Then again, that allows you to be a bti creative....
