Yesterday, Motorway and myself, accompanied by only 2 bodyguards, snuck across the lines into secessionist held territory, to conduct secret negotiations on the reinstatement of the True Historic National Bordersâ„¢ as decreed by the Vianna Congress.

We avoided the cunningly hidden redoubts protecting Antwerp without being challenged:

Soon we met up with our contact, a certain agent known by the initials WDP:

He stated his position clearly:

Which led to the only possible reaction:

Did I mention that the dastardly rebels had chosen a meeting point near the Scheldt river, just to remind us of 1831?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_van_Speyk

Naturally, this only hardened our resolve, and a compromise on reuniting the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg under the red, white and blue was not reached. We will have to return next year and try again.

Besides sampling a delicious lunch in one of the eateries surrounding the convention center we decided to make good of the day and buy a supply of lead and plastics from the many good and often well known traders, many of them from the Foggy Isles, and looking at the great demo games presented by clubs from various nations.

An impression of what I saw in pics:

Possibly word of our presence and mission had reached the authorities, because all of a sudden unit of the Belgian army rushed into the main convention hall:

We could not help but notice that their equipment seems a bit outdated compared to the Dutch army. Outside, however, I noticed that one of the legionaires was equiped with a skate board, so this might have been a newly formed rapid response unit.

That our cover was not completely blown was proven at the end of the day when one of our bodyguards, who had come along under the guise of being a painter, won a shared first price in the painting competition:

Naturally, as a cool Northener and a trur professional, he did not let his joy and surprise show at all:

Cool as a cucumber...

After only a slight traffic delay caused by too many Dutch evacuating to the North we had a smooth trip back to Groningen.

Why I was given money by a kimono clad woman I've never met before even before I got to Motorway's house, at 06:45, is a totally separate story, which might be disclosed in future.

Or not.

Coffee

Absotively, AB.

As far as I remember the colours were still ORANGE white and blue then. (?)

Good photos.

Though the law on it is much more recent, common and preferred use of red white and blue dates back to 1648.

I'm always intrigued by the (seemingly) large proportion of games at European shows with British or American themes, rather than more "local" themes. Is this because such subjects have traditionally received much greater exposure - indeed, pretty much all of it - in the wargames press? And is the recent emergence of Continental magazines - Dadi, WSS, VVV - changing this?

Good work Agent Gungs. It's good to keep an eye on what the mainlanders are up to.

I like the look of that game with the float plane, but I've no idea what it is...

Note to Gungnir, DON'T tell 'em about the six panzer divisions of the Dutch/German army corps that we are to refule tonight for an "over seas mission".

And did you get the tickets for the Dover ferry?

Well if they're going to invade using the Dover ferry I say good luck to 'em. My advice is - don't eat the sandwiches.

I have arranged for a mobile kebab stall to invade with us. I just hope he has enough room for all those buns.

Easy to find out - zoom in and see if the socks have name tags on them, or his mittens are linked by a string running up the arms of his tunic!
Laugh
