I have mentioned often on this forum that I hate painting figures but needs must if this New Spain project is to start.
So today, the castings for the Battalion of Negroes of Havana have seen the daylight! Nice short red jacket with white lace down the chest, blue cuffs and collar etc.
I have undercoated one figure which I will paint tomorrow and then decide whether the next 23 will see paint or simply be returned to the unpainted Box.
Three of the four I sculpted for myself are various parade ground poses, whereas the four I sculpted for Howard are advancing.

Amazingly I am painting this week - doing a partisan figure, and then figuring what I'm going to do for the Guild Speedbuild.

John

Can you not send them to one of your painters once you've done a few to satisfy yourself that you 'made an effort'?

Yes, lots on the go although at a non frantic pace. I change my mind as often as the wind changes as to what I want to work on so its nice to have a choice. Just this morning I had intended to devote my whole summer to Perry Sudan in the hope of really getting the project done. But just a few hours later with lots of them laid out I've decided that there's no point in rushing and I shall enjoy interspersing these with my Napoleonics as I originally planed. SInce both projects are a long way from being playable periods there's no point in giving myself grief over getting them done to a deadline.

My options are:

An hour or so will see the first batch of AB British line painted. The sculpts of these are breathtakingly good and probably the best I've ever seen of any of the smaller wargaming figures. There's also AB French cavalry to varnish.

The aforementioned Perry Sudan are laid out ready to clean up, wash and prime and there's a group of Bicorne ECW's as well. So I'm spoilt for choice really and can take my pick if I feel like detailed work or not there's a suitable task.

Painting is like breathing
I have just completed 2 projects Crazy foo Crazy foo Crazy foo Clap Clap Clap
Yes 2 projects - I started some Wowmans and Gauls about 18 months ago and just finished basing the last few skirmishers last night after a break of 6 months or so. Now I'm going to play a few games

The second is an 15mm Italian Wars project with Gladiator Miniatures (now Black hat) I bought them 12 years ago!, half finished them about 5 years ago and painted about 40 cav and a few guns last week. The only problem is that my style has changed considerably and also improved so I wasn't that happy with the original lot of 5 years ago. I gave them a wash of Badab Black last night and feel happier now. I also did the same to some Medieval stuff in 15mm that I hadn't finish basing

So now its tackle some ACW dismounted cav and the few remaining infantry in the next few weeks and I will have finished 3 projects this year - a world wargaming record?

Phil, Those hussars sound something special. Your PH armies are just Superb. The photos of your game at Falkirk were outstanding. Your 18th century collection is so perfect with regiments of infantry of 54 figures. They seem less cumbersome than the 60+ regiments with the silly movement trays!

Timmo, If I sent one of my painted figures to a professional painter they would not stop laughing for a week.
Unlike Phil O, Lt, Tim, Giles, Anglebarracks,Yourself and other members who paint superb figues I am C..p!! Just give me a pack of milliput, brass wire and a soldering iron.
When you have your next coffee break you should 'pop in'!

This week it's the second musketeer battalion of the Hesse-Darmstadt Leib Brigade in 1809 (Wagram-era) kit, using AB's 1806 Prussian figures as 'stand-ins' . . . 48 figures down, and 120 or so to go . . .

(Must say it feels slightly 'wierd' painting 15-18mm figures again after two years of nothing but 28mm scale figures. Hmmm? )

Like Dr Valleyboy, I regard painting as second only to breathing in terms of things I need to do each day. Now it's lighter earlier and I get up at 6.30ish to start painting, I'm trying to increase my weekly output to 2 batches of 7-8 figures rather than 2 batches of 6.

At the moment I'm working on Carlist War stuff with a view to a game at the end of June, so this week's first batch has 2 British riflemen, 2 loyalist line infantry and the first 3 figures in a battalion of marines. The week's routine is usually to start first thing Monday, have first two layers and faces finished by Wednesday evening, blackline on Thursday morning and final highlights/tidy up on Thursday evening/Friday. The weekend's batch is always a tighter race, with efforts on Saturday and Sunday mornings usually determined by the previous nights' wine intake Smile .

Giles, You guys with front line jobs I applaud, your dedication to real world and hobby, 6.30am painting time followed by 24/7 in the city!
Mind you when I was a real worker I had many a 4.am start, flying/training/driving North, South, East and West. At least I had the benefit of retiring at 51.

Grief, my generation won't be retiring until we're 70, given the way the economy's going...Tonight's been a bit of a disaster, painting-wise, I admit, but should be off home soon...Sad

I've been getting a bit of painting in, squeezing in an hour or two every couple of days. Some WW1 French and some ancient Goth cavalry for a game of Impetus. The latter are old Whitecross games miniatures I've had languishing in a container for the past few years. These have taken a fair amount of prep time with a file, pin vice drill, wire and epoxy, but I'm happy with how they are turning out.

Weekends I've mostly been spending time gardening, at the gym, getting house chores done and socializing, but I'll be away running a seminar for a week in June where I won't be able to do any hobby stuff at all, so this weekend I want to devote a full afternoon and evening to finishing my terrain piece and painting minis.

That and I've finally found a decent matte spray finish in place of the Testor's Dullcoat I used to use back in Canada! Clap Clap

Now where I grew up that would have implied that Giles is a dope pusher... Shock!

That or he crawls around on his stomach in the middle of the night and places barbed wire entanglements at strategic locations throughout The City. Ponder

Pension age has just gone up by 2 years in Oz.

I've ben franctically busy one way or another & not much has happened hobbywise this month. However I've indulged in a spot of terrain building this week. Some photos to follow shortly.
