Having recently enjoyed painting myy 2 free Perry Riflemen, I thought I might give 28mm Naps another go, but which is better Perry or Victrixs? On paper Perrys seem to be better value.

I've only painted the perrys plastic naps and they are easy to paint and nice figures for plastic. No where as nice as the metal figures but cheap enough to fill out the armies. I've only looked at victrix but they do look every bit as good as perrys. You won't go far wrong which ever you chose.

Perries scale better with the stuff I already use.

Go with Sharp Practice, just a few boxes gets a great game, and then you satisfy your urge without getting embroiled in years of toil.

I just prefer the Perrys – its the faces on the Victrix that puts me off.

As Rich writes do SP – perfect for 28mm without killing yourself.

I suggested you save yourself but in reality my answer would have to be - do you only drink one kind of wine? No so get both ;)

Where's the '28mm Plastic Naps? Don't be ridiculous' option?

I like the Perry's. Like Timmo I think the faces let the Victrix down, they really are very small heads. Then again I'm not the greatest face painter so maybe the smaller the features the better.

I think each box has virtues that are largely driven by what you want to use the figures for. I'm put off Victrix because of the variety of poses in each box (some of which are plain odd, like the charging poses which are rather "Old Glory"-esque) and the subsequent need to buy several boxes to field one wargaming regiment in the one pose. Then again, if skirmishing is your thing the Victrix method probably works better than the Perry "a whole battalion in a box" method. Personally, I think the Perry figures are the better sculpts, but many others don't seem to see much, if any, difference in quality.

I think his highness has pretty much summed up the virtues/vices of both sets. Another overall vote for Perry, although the newer Victrix sets have shown enormous improvement and response to customer feedback.

There's no option for 'both' Rah!

I bow to the royal wisdom on this, it's horses for courses. What is important is that there is now a good quality, cheap, introduction to wargaming - given that from the 'what got you started' thread most of us had our interest in wargaming developed by Airfix.

Can we expect to see a demographic bulge in wargamers in the next few years?

There's only one "bulge" common to most wargamers, LT....

Is that why we are getting all those 'reduce your stomach' adverts?

Mind you, Eccles must reduce our average quite a lot!

Thanks for everyones input, however I today received some news that means this project is getting shelved for a while.

I have been accepted onto a Masters Degree thats starts in September, so I need to raise almost £900 by then, so money for toys is going to be reduced and that mens no new projects. :-(
However it is my birthday in August!

Congrats Dave! I'm finally taking the plunge this year myself...

A point, I thought Victrix were much bigger than Perries?
